24 Days of Quickies: The DK Goldbrick Socks

Do I blog often? No. Do I try? Also, no. Do I think about trying? Absolutely!

So imagine my delight at finally having a good excuse to put together a post. The Marly Bird 24 days of Quickies event. A chance to interact with new people? Share one of my favorite patterns? Toss a little fun into the universe during the holidays? Yes. All the yeses.

The choice to feature the DK Goldbrick Socks as the pattern for this event was easy because there are so many reasons to highlight this little gem. It’s quick, it’s simple, it’s an easy entry into sock knitting, and it’s my opportunity to get y’all to stop calling simple sock patterns vanilla. Because I do hate that term.

Vanilla is one of my favorite flavors. It is both complex and comforting. Growing vanilla? Not a simple task at all. The plant is an orchid, for goodness’ sake. Have you ever tried keeping an orchid alive? I have. I mean, I tried. But I failed with the speed of Usain Bolt running across the finish line. My point? Vanilla is a terrible word to describe anything basic. Clearly, I have feelings. And clearly, I digress. Let’s talk socks, shall we?

The DK Goldbrick socks are perfectly simply and infinitely customizeable. The pattern is written as a single-color, stockinette, heel-flap-and-gusset design—but you can take it anywhere you want. Accent cuff and toe? Go for it. Different cast-on? Yep. Longer or shorter cuff? Always. Stripey ankle socks instead of mid-calf? Funny you mention it—I just added instructions for that.

Snag the pattern and let your creativity do its thing.
