Understanding your knitting well enough to read your stitches is a hard skill to learn. Don’t let anybody ever tell you otherwise.

To help you improve your cable knitting, I’ve put together this super simple cheat sheet to tell you where you hold your stitches (front or back) with an accompanying picture of the appropriate cable.

I also encourage you to knit several cables using this cheat sheet and look at how the stitches move as you put them in their new position. And then pull them out to see what happens as you untangle a cable. Do this several times. I promise it will help. Even if it feels silly and looks confusing.
